Haw haw, a page aaaall about those pesky little dudes/dudettes that we like to call n00bs. So first off we'll start by defining the difference between a n00b and a newb. Now I'm sure that we've all met a n00b, whether we knew what it was or not. N00bs usually populate places like sayboxes, forums and oekakis. They usually travel in packs too. Ever heard the saying 'There's safety in numbers'? The same thing applies to n00bs. If they travel in groups, usually between 3-10, they can start to grate on the nerves of even the most patient people. They tend to speak in their own language that we like to call 'n00bish'. It will prove useful to know basic n00bish incase a forum, website, oekaki ect you're a member of. N00bish is similar to English in many ways but distinctly different. For example, n00bs tend to use the word 'plz' alot (this word is particularly common with Scammer n00bs). The word plz is n00bish for please. Also they use 'lol' a heck of alot, and they also tend to repeat it over and over again. 'lol' is n00bish for laughing out loud or the 'XD' smiley (although under different circumstances, you can use 'lol' and 'XD' a lot without being considered a n00b). Another way n00bs tend to speak is by replacing letters with numbers. Like a number 4 would be used instead of the letter A. Newbs on the other hand and internet newbies. They tend to know little to nothing about the internet. Newbs often get mistaken for spammers and they can use chatspeak quite alot. Although they can seem quite annoying to experienced webbies, we were all newbs at one time. The thing that most distinguishes a newb and a n00b is the fact that newbs want to learn more about the internet and our way of life. If a n00b does something wrong and you point this out to them they will more often than not call upon the rest of their 'n00b squad' and attempt to 'flame you till you're head sets on fire'. However, if you stay calm and logical throughout the encounter and don't stress out and start screaming at the n00bs, tends to encourage them, then the n00bs will retreat and go bother someone else. .:Types of n00b:. Unfortunately for us there are many different types of n00b. They have different characteristics but are, in general, pretty much the same thing. 4 of the main types are Scammers, Beggers, Flamers and Plain Idiots. .:Scammers:. Scammers always want something from you. Whether it be a site layout, an entire site, money (these types of Scammer are found on RPG's such as runescape) or an item of some kind (also most common on RPG's). Now scammers may just seem like harmless little newbs but you'd be suprised. They often lie and cheat to get what they want from you. For example take the pictures below.   1. Make sure you only let people you know very well borrow things 2. If you trade with someone ya don't know make sure they give you something of the same value 3. If you're on a higher lv than them tell them if they don't leave you alone you'll take them to the wildy and kill them (Only works in RuneScape) .:Beggers:. The next type of n00b is less dangerous but a heck of alot more annoying. Beggers generally walk up to you and ask you for stuff.  Also notice the use if n00bish? The n00b will usually leave once you tell them you're not giving or if you ignore them. Some however are very persistent and will pester you and whine until they get what they want. If you're on a forums, oekaki ect contact the admin and they'll get rid of the n00b. If you're on an RPG ignoring them tends to be the best option but again if you're playing Runescape and you're a higher lv take them to the good old wildy >3 .:Flamers:. Ahhh type 3, the flamers. These guys tend to insult you until they get their way. Some of these guys are actually pretty funny but sometimes they're taken too seriously and that's when people get hurt. Take this incident for example:  The n00b insults the other player, the player gets upset and the n00bs laughs. Typical school bully. There's only one real way to deal with them, don't ever take them seriously. Laugh at them, be sarcastic. Heck agree with them XD It just confuses them and makes the situation a whole lot more fun for you. .:Plain Idiots:. My favourite type of n00b. PI's do alot of stuff, generally they're just idiots who has too much time on their hands. But they are, of course, funny.  Personally I wouldn't recommend trying to avoid this type. They don't really do much damage, apart from spammy comments but they can easily be deleted, so just sit back and laugh at them. .:Indepth n00bish:. As we said before n00bs communicate in n00bish. It is helpful, but not necessary, for youto be able to understand this language. Some phrases include lol = laugh out loud ph34r = fear r0x0rzz = rocks plz = please As you may have noticed alot the majority of the words are mearly shortened, whereas somehave numbers in the place of letters. So hopefuly now you know what a n00b is, how to avoid the many different kinds, where you're most likely to find a n00b and you may even know how to speak n00bish. If one of your friends asks you 'Hey what's a n00b?' and you don't really want to explain, send 'em here! |
