.:: How to set up your own oekaki ::.

1. Is your host the right host for your oekaki?
The oekaki requires PHP and MySQL support, it also requires FTP and CHMOD capabilities while you're setting it up. If your host does not have these requirements, try looking for another one. I HIGHLY suggest that you do not host the oekaki with the same host that's hosting your website, because the oekaki can use up ALOT of bandwidth and space; so unless you have unlimited bandwidth, do not host it in the same server as your site.

I recommend:
Tripod UK
This one has an annoying banner ad (and other additional ads), but provides good webspace and bandwidth.
100 Webspace
This one has a small banner ad, but provides a decent amount of webspace and bandwidth.

2. Preparing your computer:
1) Before we can begin, we'll need to download the oekaki files, they can be located at (http://www.suteki.nu/files/oekakip-5.1.0a.zip)
2) Right click the link, and choose Save Target As...
3) If you do not have the right program to unzip this folder, you can download it at Winzip.com.
4) Once you saved the oekaki folder, Winzip will automatic goes into action, it will extra the files for you, and the unzipped oekaki folder will now be located in the folder Unzipped in Your Documents.

3. Uploading the oekaki via SmartFTP:
1) When using FTP, you will need to obtain your oekaki's MySQL database's username, the name of the MySQL database, and the database password. If you do not know any of this, try contacting your host, or try searching for them again, usually your control panel will tell you what they are.
2) Now to install SmartFTP (a very good and reliable FTP client) Go to (http://www.smartftp.com/download/)
3) Once you've installed SmartFTP, run the program.
4) In SmartFTP, at the top panel, it will have an area for you to place in your password and username.
- In the address field, type your FTP url (ex: mysite.com)
- In the login field, type your FTP username.
- In the password field, type your password.
- Leave the "Port" on 21 (unless your host says otherwise), and leave "Anonymous" unchecked.
- Press Enter to login.
5) In the Local Browser, navigate to the C Drive.
6) Click and drag the Oekaki folder into the large box of the Remote Window.
7) Close the Local Browser by clicking the "X icon" in its top-right corner (not the SmartFTP window's, though =P)

4. CHMOD:
1) Go to your control panel, and find something that says 'Change Permissions'. And CHMOD the oekaki folder to 777.
2) Now to CHMOD the rest of the files inside of the oekaki folder, CHMOD these files to 666:
- announce.php
- hosts.txt
- ips.txt
- notice.php
3) You will now need to create a folder for the pictures, just call it pictures, because it is the default. If you named it something else, you will need to go through the config.php and change it.
4) CHMOD the templates and pictures folders to 777, and that's it for the CHMODing!

5. Installation:
Installation is pretty simple, first of all open your install.php page, and it will take you to the configuration page.
Now you will need to fill in your MySQL database information once again, make sure you fill it out CORRECTLY, or you will have to start over again once you have submitted the form.

Your e-mail address is an important part of the oekaki. If something goes wrong, especially with your password or one of your users, information will be e-mailed to you. -- IF, you want your new users to be approved automatically, without them having to activate it or you having to verify it, read step #6.

The part where it asks for "require approval," set to NO or else you'll be sent an e-mail and have to reply every time a user wants to register. Allow draw and animation for all (set both to YES) and you'll have a self-automated system.

JPEG compression isn't important. Number of pictures can be however many your server can handle. Check with your host for an estimate of how many you should store. High-quality PNG files tend to reach about 200kb each, and animations can reach up to 500kb. Don't go overboard or you'll run out of space quick (make sure you tell your members to use only 3-4 animations per month, animations tends to use up a lot of space and bandwidth, so you should set a restricted amount of animations)

Maximum filesizes can be left on default, and so can picture height and width. You can change anything you want later, as long as you keep your password and username.

When you're done, submit the form. If there is ANY errors in your oekaki, it will say so at the top of the page - if there is nothing there..then your oekaki had been installed! Be sure to delete install.php and do the same for upgrade.php and/or update.php afterwards.

Hopefully this tutorial had helped you installed your own oekaki, if there are any errors, you can visit the Suteku forums for technical support (http://www.suteki.nu/community/forumdisplay.php)

6. Automatic registration approvals (optional):
Like I said before in step #5, if you would like to have new members approved automatically, you will have to do a search and edit in the functions.php page =D

Look for this code:

..rightt...confusing eh? =3 Well, find usrflags='P' in the code, and change the P (pending) into GDM, for General user, drawing access, and animation access. To make sure it will work, change both of the P's. And that's it! You can test it buy signing up and logging in right after you've registered.

Warning: Letting random people into your oekaki is not recommended..if your oekaki has a strict rule about the time limit or the drawing quality of an artist, it is not wise to have the new comers be automatically approved ;P just a warning......*shifty*
